/ˈnoʊʃən/ noun B1, B2**Notion** is a mental picture of something, an idea or belief that lives in the mind. It can be as crisp as a plan for a weekend or as hazy as a half‑formed hunch. When you talk about a notion, you are pointing to a mental construct rather than a physical object. A notion may be fully formed, as in the notion of democracy, or only a tentative inkling, as in having a notion to try a new recipe. The phrase “a vague notion” signals that the idea is not yet detailed, while “a strong notion” indicates firm conviction. Writers often use the word to hint at a perspective that can be refined, debated, or discarded.

Es muy útil en frases como "tener la noción de que..." para introducir una opinión o perspectiva que puede debatirse, refinarse o descartarse.
