middle

/ˈmɪdəɫ/ noun A1, A2

**Middle** is the sweet spot between start and finish, the waist of a person, the central slice of anything, even the grammatical middle voice. It’s where you stand when you’re neither here nor there, the hub of a sandwich, a road, or a story.

Registro neutro.

Word Origin 'Middle' comes from Old English middel, from Proto-Germanic *middil-, from PIE *medhyo- 'middle'. The Latin cognate medius gives us medium, medial, and medieval (the 'middle ages'). The same root also appears in Mediterranean (the sea in the middle of the land) and mediocre (literally 'halfway up the mountain', so middling quality).
