immanent

/ˈɪmənənt/ adj C1

existing within; inherent

Word Origin Immanent means 'inherent, existing within,' from Latin immanere 'to remain in.' It's built from in- 'in' and manere 'to stay, remain.' The same manere gives us permanent (remaining through), remain (stay back), and mansion (a place where you stay). So immanent is something that stays inside — like a divine presence dwelling within the world, as opposed to transcendent (beyond).
