It can be a chair that pinches, a seat that squeaks, or a conversation that makes your stomach do somersaults. It describes the physical prick of a tight shoe, the mental jitter of anxiety, and the moral cringe of something distasteful. In short, it’s the feeling that tells you, “I’d rather be elsewhere, or at least in softer socks.”
