precursory

/pɹɪkˈɜsɚɹi/ adj C1

introductory

Word Origin From Latin prae- 'before' and currere 'to run' — literally 'running ahead.' That's why something precursory is a forerunner, a preliminary event that runs before the main one. The same root currere gives us cursory (a quick run-through), precursor (one who runs before), and even curriculum (a course of study, a running path).
