nativity

/nəˈtɪvəti/ noun B2

**Nativity** means birth, especially the birth of Jesus. The term most often appears in Christian contexts. It also names artistic scenes depicting that birth. Use it beyond religion: you might describe the nativity of a new invention or a newborn. In literature, writers might refer to a character's nativity to emphasize origin. Museums display nativity scenes at Christmas, and schools talk about the nativity of ideas during creative workshops.

常见搭配:~ scene(耶稣诞生场景)。

Word Origin Nativity comes from Latin 'nasci' (to be born) — so it's about birth, specifically the birth of Christ. The root gives us native (born in a place), natal (relating to birth), nation (a people born in a place), and even Renaissance (rebirth). The PIE root *gene- (to give birth) also appears in generate and genetics.
