maniple

/ˈmænɪp(ə)l/ noun B2

a strip of cloth worn on the left arm by a priest during Mass

Word Origin Maniple originally meant a handful, from Latin manus 'hand' and plere 'to fill' — literally 'handful'. It was a Roman military unit of about 120 soldiers, a 'handful' of men. The same manus root gives us manual, manage, and manuscript (handwritten), while plere gives us complete, plenty, and replenish.
