gifted

/ˈɡɪftəd/, /ˈɡɪftɪd/ adj A2, B1

**Gifted** describes someone whose brain seems to have a turbo‑charger, flashing brilliance in math, music, or any other field that normally makes most of us sweat. The same word doubles as the past tense of “gift,” meaning gave something to someone. In cheeky slang it can also hint at an unusually large male organ. All three flavors share the idea of being unusually endowed, whether with smarts, generosity, or… anatomical generosity.

Word Origin Gifted comes from gift, which originally meant 'something given' — so a gifted person is someone who has been 'given' a talent. The root is Proto-Germanic *giftiz, related to give. The same family includes forgive (give completely), given, and regift.
