distrait

/dɪˈstɹeɪ/ adj C1

absent-minded

Word Origin Distrait is a French borrowing from Latin dis- 'apart' and trahere 'to pull' — literally 'pulled apart'. It describes someone absent-minded, their attention drawn away. The same root gives us distract, attract (pull toward), extract (pull out), contract (pull together), and abstract (pull away). Even trait is something drawn, a feature.
