Not adjacent.

Word Origin Adjacent comes from Latin ad- 'to' and jacere 'to throw' — literally 'thrown to,' so things that are adjacent are lying next to each other. The same root jacere gives us inject (throw in), eject (throw out), project (throw forward), and subject (throw under). Nonadjacent just adds the prefix non- 'not' — so not lying next to each other.
