obstreperous

/əbˈstɹɛpɝəs/ adj C1

noisy and unruly

Word Origin Obstreperous means noisy and difficult to control, and it comes from Latin ob- 'against, in the way' and strepere 'to roar, resound' — literally 'making a noise in opposition.' The root strepere is rare in English, but we have strepitous (noisy). So an obstreperous person is one who roars against authority, like a protester who won't be quiet.
