cockish

/ˈkɑkɪʃ/ adj

Cocky, assertive.

Word Origin Cockish comes from Old English cocc 'rooster' plus the suffix -ish — so it literally means 'rooster-like.' The idea is that strutting, self-important attitude we associate with a barnyard rooster. That same root gives us cocky and cocksure, both capturing that overconfident swagger.
