disaffection

/ˌdɪsəˈfɛkʃən/ noun C1

disloyalty

Word Origin Affection comes from Latin affectus, from ad- 'to' and facere 'do' — so it's literally 'done to' someone, a feeling directed toward them. Disaffection adds dis- 'apart,' meaning a pulling away of that feeling, a loss of loyalty. The root facere is a powerhouse: it gives us fact (something done), factory (place of making), and effect (result of doing).
