willful

/ˈwɪɫfəɫ/ adj B2, C1

done deliberately or intentionally

Word Origin A combination of will (desire) and -ful (full of). The word will goes back to PIE *wel- 'to wish', and full to *pelə- 'to fill'. So willful is literally full of will. The same will root gives us willpower, willingly, and the Latin volition. The full root gives us fill, full, and plenty (via Latin plenus). So willful describes someone brimming with their own desires.
