suitability

/ˌsutəˈbɪɫɪti/ noun

How appropriate or well-matched something is for a particular purpose or situation.

Word Origin Suit comes from Latin sequi 'to follow,' via Old French suite 'a following, pursuit.' A suit of clothes originally meant a set of matching garments that follow each other in style. Suitable means 'able to follow' — fitting, appropriate. Suitability is the quality. The root sequi gives us pursue, sequence, consequence, execute (follow out), and obsequious (following after). So suitability is the quality of following well, fitting.
