froward

/ˈfɹoʊwəɹd/ adj C1

contrary

Word Origin From Old English 'fro' 'away' and 'weard' 'direction' — froward literally means 'turned away,' hence contrary, perverse. It's the opposite of toward. The same 'weard' gives us forward, backward, and awkward (turned wrong). So a froward person is always turning away from you.
