polity

/ˈpɑɫəti/ noun B2, C1

an organized society

Word Origin From Greek polis 'city, city-state' — a polity is the form of a political community. The same root gives us politics, police (originally the administration of a city), and metropolis (mother city). The idea is that a polity is the organized structure of a city-state, the way citizens govern themselves. The suffix -y (from Latin -ia) turns it into a noun of state.
