inconsecutive

/ɪŋkənsˈɛkjutˌɪv/ adj

Not consecutive

Word Origin Inconsecutive is simply in- 'not' + consecutive, which comes from Latin con- 'together' and sequi 'to follow' — so consecutive is 'following together,' and inconsecutive is not following in order. The root sequi gives us sequence, consequence, subsequent, and sequel. The PIE root *sekw- meant 'to follow,' also giving us second (the following one) and sect (a group that follows).
