foreboder

/fˈɔɹboʊdɚ/ noun

an oracle; one who tells the future.

Word Origin A foreboder is one who forebodes — literally 'before-announcer.' From Old English 'fore-' 'before' and 'bodian' 'to announce,' so to forebode is to announce something before it happens, often with a sense of doom. The same 'bodian' root gives us bode (to be an omen) and forbid (to command against, literally 'against-announce'). The breakdown fore+bod+er shows the agent suffix -er.
