imprecation

/ˌɪm.pɹəˈkeɪ.ʃən/ noun C1

a curse

Word Origin Imprecation is a curse or invocation of evil, from Latin imprecari 'to pray against'. It's in- 'against' + precari 'to pray'. The same root gives us pray, prayer, deprecate (pray away), and precarious (obtained by prayer, hence uncertain). So an imprecation is literally a prayer for harm.
