depreciative

/dᵻpɹˈiʃiətˌɪv/ adj

Belittling, disparaging.

Word Origin Built from Latin de- 'down' and pretium 'price, value' — literally 'lowering the value' of something. The same root pretium gives us appreciate (literally 'to set a price on'), precious, and even praise, which originally meant 'to value highly.' The negative sense of depreciative is clear: it's the opposite of appreciative.
