amicability

/ˌæ.mɪ.kəˈbɪ.lɪ.ti/ noun

The state or quality of being amicable or friendly.

Word Origin From Latin amicus 'friend' and amare 'to love' — so amicability is literally 'friend-love-ability'. The root am- runs through a whole family: amiable (lovable), amorous (full of love), and even amateur (originally 'lover of' something). But the surprising twist is enemy — from Latin inimicus, 'not friend', with that same amicus root hiding inside. So amicability and enemy are etymological opposites.
