unoffending

/ʌnəfˈɛndɪŋ/ adj

Not offending.

Word Origin From Latin 'offendere' — literally 'to strike against' (ob- 'against' + fendere 'to strike'). So offending is striking against someone, and unoffending means not doing that. The fendere root also gives us defend (strike away) and fend (to ward off). The PIE root *gwhend- meant 'to strike, kill,' so offense originally had a physical impact.
