Word Origin From appeal, which comes from Latin appellare 'to address, call upon,' from ad- 'to' and pellere 'to drive, push' — literally 'to drive toward' someone for help. Appealable means 'able to be appealed.' The root pellere gives us compel (drive together), expel (drive out), and pulse (a driving beat).
