wonted

/ˈwəʊntɪd/ adj B2

usual

Word Origin Wont comes from Proto-Germanic wunōną 'to be accustomed, to dwell' — so wonted means 'accustomed, usual'. The idea is that what you dwell in becomes your habit. The same root gives us 'win' (originally to strive, then to gain by striving) and 'wish' (to desire). The PIE root *wen- 'to desire' also appears in 'Venus' (goddess of love) and 'venereal'.
