unsubtle

/ənˈsətəɫ/ adj

Not subtle; obvious.

Word Origin Subtle comes from Latin subtilis, literally 'finely woven' — from sub- 'under' and tela 'web' (from texere 'to weave'). So something subtle is woven so finely it's almost invisible. Unsubtle is the opposite: not finely woven, obvious. The same weaving root *teks- gives us texture, textile, context (woven together), pretext (woven before), and even technology (the art of weaving skill) and architect (master weaver).
