resolvability

/ɹᵻzˌɑlvəbˈɪlᵻɾi/ noun

The quality or condition of being resolvable.

Word Origin Resolvability comes from 'resolve', which is re- 'again' and 'solvere' 'to loosen'. So resolve originally meant to loosen again, to untie a knot. The breakdown re+solv+able+ity shows the ability to be resolved. The root 'solvere' gives us solve, dissolve (loosen apart), absolve (loosen from), and solution. The PIE root *leu- also yields 'loose' and 'loss'. So resolvability is the quality of being able to be untangled or solved.
