ingrained

/ˌɪnˈɡɹeɪnd/ adj B2

deeply rooted

Word Origin From Latin in- 'into' and granum 'grain' — originally a dyeing term: color fixed 'in the grain' of the fabric before weaving, so it's permanent. That's why ingrained means deeply fixed, impossible to remove. The same root granum gives us grain, granule, granite (grainy rock), and even pomegranate (apple with many seeds).
