ingenuousness

/ˌɪnˈdʒɛnjuəsnəs/ noun

The condition of being ingenuous.

Word Origin From Latin ingenuus 'native, freeborn, noble' — literally 'born in' (in- + gignere). It originally meant having the qualities of a freeborn person: frank, honest, open. The negative form disingenuous means not candid. The same root gives us genuine (natural, not fake) and genius (inborn spirit). The PIE root *ǵenh₁- 'to give birth' connects to generate and genus.
