convulsive

/kənˈvəɫsɪv/ adj B2

marked by violent shaking

Word Origin Convulsive comes from Latin convellere 'to pull together violently' — con- 'together' and vellere 'to pluck, tear'. The idea is of muscles being yanked and torn into spasms. The same root vellere gives us revulsion (a pulling back in disgust) and avulsion (a tearing away). You can almost feel the violent tugging in the word itself.
