attestable

/əˈtɛs.tə.bəl/ adj

Able to be attested.

Word Origin Attestable means able to be attested. Attest comes from Latin attestari, from ad- 'to' + testari 'to bear witness', from testis 'witness'. Testis is from PIE *trei- 'three', because a witness was a third person standing by. The same root gives us testify, testimony, testament, and contest (witness together, then dispute). Detest originally meant 'to call God to witness' a curse, then to hate. So attestable is something you can witness to.
