untypical

/ənˈtɪpɪkəɫ/ adj

not typical, atypical, unusual

Word Origin Type comes from Greek typos 'a blow, impression, model' — so a type is a stamp or pattern. Untypical means not conforming to the type. The un- prefix negates it. The same root gives us typical, prototype (first model), stereotype (solid model), archetype (original pattern), and even typography (writing with types).
