stomaching

/stˈʌməkɪŋ/ adj

nauseating; sickening

Word Origin Stomach comes from Greek stomachos, which originally meant 'mouth, gullet' — from stoma 'mouth.' So the stomach was thought of as a mouth inside you. Stomaching means enduring or tolerating something, as if you can stomach it. The same root stoma gives us stoma (a mouth-like opening in plants) and stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth). So stomaching something is literally 'taking it into your inner mouth.'
