gameness

/ˈɡeɪmnəs/ noun

The quality of being game; bravery, courage or pluck

Word Origin Game comes from Old English gamen 'joy, sport,' from Proto-Germanic *gaman- 'participation, amusement,' from PIE *gwhem- 'to jump, spring.' So game originally meant a joyful activity. Gameness is the quality of being game, i.e., willing, spirited. The same root gives us gamer, gamely (in a spirited manner), and gamesome (playful). The PIE root also gives us 'gambol' (to leap playfully).
