enrollee

/ɛnˈɹoʊˈɫi/ noun

A person who is enrolled, as in a school.

Word Origin 'Enroll' comes from Latin 'inrotulare' — 'in-' (in) + 'rotula' (a small wheel, a roll). The idea: writing names on a rolled-up scroll. So to enroll is to enter into the roll. An 'enrollee' is the person who is enrolled — the '-ee' suffix indicates the recipient of the action. The root 'rotula' gives us 'roll', 'scroll', and 'control' (originally 'counter-roll', a duplicate register). So an enrollee is literally one written into the roll.
