courtliness

/kˈɔɹtlinəs/ noun

The quality of being courtly; refinement of manners.

Word Origin From Latin cohors 'enclosure, yard' — a court was originally an enclosed space, then the king's retinue, then the place where the king held gatherings. Courtliness is the quality of refined manners suitable for a royal court. The same root gives us courteous and courtesy, while cohort (a group of soldiers) comes directly from cohors. So courtliness is literally 'court-like behavior.'
