Word Origin From Latin currere 'to run' — so incursive literally means 'running into.' The root curs- (from currere) gives us a whole family of running words: cursive (running handwriting), cursor (runner), course (a running path), current (running flow), and excursion (running out). Incursion is a running into enemy territory, and incursive describes that. The PIE root *kers- meant 'to run,' and you can see it in horse (from a related root) and car (a running vehicle).
