heatless

/ˈhitləs/ adj

Without heat.

Word Origin Heatless is heat + -less, from Old English lēas 'devoid of.' Heat comes from Old English hǣtu, from PIE *kay- 'heat, warmth.' So heatless means without heat. The -less suffix is the same as in countless, fearless. It's a straightforward word, but the root heat also gives us heater, heating, and overheat. The PIE root *kay- also gives us hot (via a different path).
