dullish

/ˈdəɫɪʃ/ adj

Somewhat dull; dull to a degree.

Word Origin Dull comes from Proto-Germanic dulaz 'foolish, stupid' — so dullish means 'somewhat dull or foolish.' The suffix -ish adds a sense of 'a bit.' The same root gives us dullard (a dull person) and dully. Interestingly, the PIE root *dhwel- meant 'to make turbid, confuse,' so dull originally had a sense of mental cloudiness.
