combatable

/kˈɑmbæɾəbəl/ adj

Able to be combated or opposed

Word Origin Combatable comes from Latin com- 'together' and battuere 'to beat, strike' — so combat is literally 'striking together.' Add -able and you get 'able to be fought against.' The same root battuere gives us battle, battery (originally a beating), abate (to beat down), and debate (to beat down in argument).
