ascendable

/æsˈɛndəbəl/ adj

Capable of being ascended.

Word Origin From Latin ad- 'to' and scandere 'to climb' — so ascend is literally 'climb to.' Ascendable is 'able to be climbed.' The root scandere also gives us descend (climb down), transcend (climb beyond), and scan (originally 'to climb a verse,' to mark its meter). The PIE root *skand- 'to leap, climb' also appears in scandal (a stumbling block) and slander.
