perpetually

/pɝˈpɛtʃuəɫi/ adv

Seeming to never end; endlessly; constantly.

Word Origin Perpetually comes from perpetual, from Latin perpetualis, from perpetuus 'continuous, uninterrupted,' from per- 'throughout' + petere 'to seek, go toward.' So perpetual is literally 'going through and through,' seeking its way continuously. The same pet- root gives us compete (seek together), repeat (seek again), and appetite (a seeking toward).
