Word Origin A nonreactor is something that does not react. Reactor comes from react, from re- 'back' + act 'do, drive'. So a reactor is something that acts back. Non- negates it. The root agere gives us act, action, active, agent, agenda, agitate, navigate (drive a ship). The PIE *ag- meant 'to drive, move'.
