minimally

/ˈmɪnəməɫi/ adv

In a minimal way; to the least extent.

Word Origin Minimal comes from Latin minimus 'smallest,' the superlative of minor 'smaller.' The root *mei- gives us minus, minority, and even minister (originally a servant, a 'smaller' person). Minimally means 'in the smallest way.' The same root also gives us diminish (to make smaller) and minuscule (very small). It's a family of smallness.
