foredoom

/fɔːˈduːm/ verb C1

to doom or condemn beforehand

Word Origin Foredoom means to doom beforehand, to predestine to a bad fate. Doom comes from Proto-Germanic domaz 'judgment, law', from PIE *dhe- 'to set, put'. The fore- prefix adds 'before'. So foredoom is a judgment set in advance. The same doom gives us doomsday and deem (to judge). The -dom suffix in freedom and kingdom is related.
