bladelike

/blˈeɪdlaɪk/ adj

Resembling a blade

Word Origin A compound of 'blade' and 'like', but 'blade' originally meant 'leaf' in Old English — so bladelike is literally 'leaf-like'. The connection between leaves and blades is ancient: both are flat and sharp-edged. The same root *bhel- gives us 'bloom', 'blossom', and 'foliage' (via Latin). The 'like' suffix, from Old English 'lic' (body, form), also appears in 'alike' and 'likely'.
