weightily

/wˈeɪɾili/ adv

In a weighty manner; ponderously; forcibly.

Word Origin Weight comes from Proto-Germanic *wihtiz, from PIE *wegh- 'to move, carry' — so weight is literally 'heaviness you carry.' Weightily means doing something with weight, seriousness. The same root gives us weigh, wagon (something that carries), and even vector (a carrier in math). The PIE root *wegh- is about moving and bearing loads, so weightily is 'in a heavy, carrying manner.'
