refutable

/refuˈtable/ adj

Able to be refuted, or shown to be false.

Word Origin From Latin re- 'back' and futare 'to beat' — refutable means able to be beaten back, i.e., disproven. The root futare also appears in confute (to beat down, disprove). The breakdown re+fut+able shows the prefix, root, and suffix, so refutable is literally 'able to be struck back'.
