outmost

/ˈaʊtmoʊst/ adj

superlative form of outer: most outer; farthest outside; as far from the center or inside as possible.

Word Origin Outmost means farthest out, from out + most. Out is from Old English ūt, PIE *ud- 'up, out', and most is the superlative of much. The same pattern gives us utmost (from Old English ūtmest, double superlative), foremost, and innermost. Outmost is a straightforward compound, but it's interesting that utmost originally meant 'outermost' and later shifted to 'greatest'. So outmost is the extreme outer limit.
