admonitory

/ˌædˈmɔnɪˌtɔɹi/ adj C1

giving advice or warning

Word Origin Built from Latin ad- 'to' and monere 'to warn' — so admonitory is something that gives a warning toward you. The root monere also gives us monitor (one who warns), premonition (a warning before), and even monument (something that reminds). The PIE root *men- 'to think' connects to mental and mind — a warning is meant to make you think.
